The Lena™ nanoceutics system is a proven particle processing technology that can enhance the dispersion and deposition of hydrophobic actives.
Many active pharmaceutical materials have inherently poor dispersion and dissolution characteristics in water and biological fluids, resulting in absorption and bioavailability challenges. The hydrophobic nature of, for example, antimicrobials, fungicides, insecticides, and antiparasitic agents is often a factor contributing to the materials activity. It is this combination of hydrophobicity and activity that leads to formulation issues.
In order to help overcome the challenges of developing such compounds, Synectix offers to it's clients the use of the proprietary Lena™ nanoceutics system, a novel particle processing technology for the rapid formation of stable aqueous nano-dispersions and now, dry powder nanoparticles for conventional pharmaceutical formulation processing. The resulting products contain uniform crystalline sub-micron particles, which scatter evenly and rapidly throughout the dispersing medium and often exhibit dispersion, dissolution and absorption characteristics similar or equal to a pre-solubilised liquid formulation of the drug substance.
The advantages of the Lena™ nanoceutics system depend on the specific requirements of the market and application; however several benefits have already been identified including:
• Ability to increase active ingredient loadings in formulations
• Enhanced material activity including bioactivity/bioavailability
• Increased dispersion and deposition of hydrophobic actives
• Very short processing times (typically less than 30 minutes)
• Improved control of product quality, especially yield
• Exploitation of new benefits using existing materials
• Expanded palette of ingredients for innovation
• Removal of heat treatment for sensitive materials
• Easily scalable from concept formulation to production
